Urban Sprawl

Some of the living creatures that we consider bad or dangerous to humans can be incredibly beautiful. Take for instance parasites, which is what this painting is inspired by. A parasite is an organism that lives off another and takes its nutrients from the host at the host’s expense. Some of the cell walls seen here reminded me of buildings and sidewalks, which got me to thinking about the city, Chicago and my upcoming show. The title Urban Sprawl came to mind when I realized we humans are really the parasites of this planet. We continue to take from the Earth often times without consideration for her condition.
